I'm in love with Rachel Maddow. This is a great segment from her. It's a pretty good explanation of the bailout the Bush administration is asking for- including a mention of the troublesome Section 8, which has got to go! I'm not saying we should do nothing. But, the way this thing is being ramrodded through now and the language included is downright scary. The more I'm reading/hearing about this, the more I think Somebody was right with his (her?) comments.

Robert Reich is quite the history revisionist. He was part of the Clinton Administration that signed into law the effective repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933.

He is advising Obama now. That's scary. He is blaming McCain for the deregulation that he was a part of to begin with. Please stop insulting our intelligence Mr Reich. You are part of the deregulation. Why am I supposed to believe now you are suddenly the solution? You should have had it written into the law that there will be no bailouts so that your friends on Wall Street would be more apt to be careful with their investments.
Obama needs to fire his whole Clinton economic team. They are for the bailout, but they don't want to take any of the credit for why they have to be for a bailout to begin with. They had their hands all over it in the late nineties.
Let the investment banks fail. When was the last time you went to an investment bank for anything?

Actually just having this discussion with a friend right now (he's talking as I type).
I don't want to get into the finger pointing right now. Blame Clinton, blame, whomever. The point (for me) is what do we do now?
I agree with you on this, Someday. I'm thinking we need to look at this more before we take drastic action. Bernandke and Paulson want us to believe the sky will fall if this bill isn't pushed through this week. I don't think we should fall for that one again.
I agree. Finger pointing is not helpful at the moment.
I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the guy in the video
That's why I don't understand why the left keeps politicizing this. They basically told McCain that he was key in bringing the Republicans on board to vote in favor of passing this bailout....

.....then when he leaves off the campaign and goes to Washington to do what they called for, they are all up in arms about it. This is so frustrating. It's bad enough the consensus is shaping up to pass this thing. It's even worse to politicize it when people actually try to act bipartisan about it.
Harry Reid even went so far as to tell McCain he wasn't needed there. What on Earth? A Senator is not supposed to be part of the process anymore? Is it because he doesn't want a fellow Senator to vote? Face it, Obama and McCain are effectively their party leaders right now. Or at least they should be if we are supposed to be picking one of them for President. They are elected Senators. This is about more than just words and joint statements. It' about action. Stop the partisanship and wake up. Clearly I think McCain is on the wrong side of this issue. He is for it. Some of the Republicans see it for what it is and are completely against it.
I was proud of the Democratic Senator Chuck Shumer when he asked Paulson "Why not appropriate a portion of the money now -- say, $150 billion -- reassess where the markets are in a few months, and decide then whether more is needed?"
That was the sanest idea I've heard yet by anyone that is for this proposal. I might hold my nose and go along with something like that.
You asked what to do about it? I spent the morning emailing and phoning my Senators and my Representatives. I am hopeful that everyone is doing the same. Whether we are right or wrong, we must have our voices heard. We need to take back the responsibility for our Government and have our voices heard.
I was typing this and there was a knock at the door. A young man with a briefcase identifying himself as a pollster asked me who I was voting for. I told him McCain. He asked me why. I told him why and he wrote it down, then he began to explain to me how the Republicans have ruined America and how only Senator Obama can save us now. I thanked him for his opinion but that I wasn't taking a poll, he was, and he then asked me to change my opinion. I asked him to change his. He looked at me in disbelief. He walked away scratching his head. I just chuckled and watched him walk to the next house.
Politics....lol

Someday
I watched her last night and thought she leaned a bit too much (albeit not s much as Olberman) to the left for me.. maybe if I watched again she would seem different?
I like Joe Scarborough of MSNBC's Morning Joe.. while right-leaning he seems to be able to bring a lot of different political views and people on his show.
Gotta love those "pollsters"
Face it, it's all politics right now Someday. McCain's offer to suspend the campaign and run off to Washington to look presidential- political move. Bush calling McCain and Obama to the White House today- political move.
Bob,
Rachel Maddow is on the left and makes no apologies for it. I just think she's smart, cute and I like the way she puts things.
I sometimes listen to Rush Limbaugh (when I'm very, very bored and in the car) for entertainment. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow are a little like Rush in that they are not really "journalists". They are far from objective. But, they do report on facts and they give commentary.
