Am I a heretic? Maybe. If believing that God is all powerful, all loving, wiser than His creation and perfectly willing and capable of saving all of His children makes me a heretic, sign me up.
This is so spot-on. I love it. Brian, I value your opinion. How much, if any, of Marcus Borg's work have you read. I familiar with him, what's your opinion?
Borg is one of my favorites. I've read "The Heart of Christianity" three times and done a group study on it. I've also read Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time and Reading The Bible Again for the First Time. If I had to credit just one book with "saving" my Christianity, it would be "The Heart of Christianity". If not for that book, I'm not sure I'd be a Christian today.
It is funny and yet sad because it speaks to how people who really don't know something as fact express their views as facts. Even though the fundamentalists get the brunt of this characterization, this is true of all sorts of religious folks.
Religion is always best expressed with a large dose of humility :)
